Why I love Craigslist.
Found a 944 in western CO- broken timing belt. Called on the ad, discussed with the seller. Negotiated a $1K buy price sight unseen. Went out to get it with the truck and trailer. Upon arrival I noticed how reasonably clean the car was (I love it when a gamble looks like its going to pay off). Got it on the trailer and drug it home. Tore down the top end- sure enough, the timing belt snapped.... But whats this? All the belts still say PORSCHE on them? There is a paint telltale in the rotor still? Timing mark plug is still there? All the hose clamps on the intake had paint telltales as well?Could it be that this had never even been apart ONCE?
I then started to go thru the interior of the car- inside the glove box? Every receipt since it was new. No kidding. After putting them in order the car has 52K original miles on it in 3 owners. I was floored.
I have it back together now and its a time capsule- seats are perfect, starts with one touch- unreal. Needles to say I am very happy with the gamble- going to keep this one and get it back to shape. Needs a front valance and a "nose job" in terms of paint- otherwise, everything works!
