I just moved and my linksys wireless router wouldn't give out internet access. I had to clone my pc's mac address then renew the routers ip.  :banghead:

I switched from a netgear with 2 antennas to a dlink with 1 antenna (netgear wireless died). My connection strength has dropped some, so I'd recommend 2 antennas. Also, the dlink has all this Super-G and RangeBooster stuff that seems to be all marketing crap. The Super-G does allow me to be at 54mbs instead of 48mbs when my housemate isn't on. Whoopie. Generally, any wireless router is good enough but if you wanna be a big nerd, get a cat6 router. Most cable modems support cat6 and if you use cat6 cables (slightly more expensive) it might make a minor difference.

I really like my Airport Extreme, but for the money, you could probably find one for quite a bit less.

Just sick of it.

Yeah that's what happened to mine. Wired worked fine, but wireless was awful. Eventually, it just stopped spitting out a signal all together.

I used to have linkshit. Now I have a belkin and love it.  Look into them, they are better than linksys.

I've had so many over the years, and the one I like the best so far is my current one:

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530

Works great with my Vonage as you can set the COS levels easily.

Linksys wrt45gl flashed to run the openWRT firmware. It will give you all the functionality of a full cisco router...  8)

do you do lan gaming at your house with 20 other people or share alot of media between your computers? if so, go with a N spec router, but if your just using it for a wireless AP for the internet, there is no way you will ever use the 54Mb speed of a normal G router. The fastest internet speed in colorado right now is 12Mb and you will only see about 3Mb due to it being shared between your next door neighbor. If you do the math, you will see that spending an extra 50 bucks on a N router is not worth it unless you are doing some major bandwith on your local LAN.

I need it for my 2 laptops not connected with a LAN cable and the PS3. I may connect the PS3 with the LAN cable though because qwest is great at tripping the router. At least my Lynksuks router. I had to reset it twice yesterday!

Second question, who is REALLY faster? qwest or comcast?

Crimecast probably, but quest is cheaper for a lil less money. Just cancelled my comcast and gonna give quest a whirl.

Qwest isn't too bad. Really, unless you're into downloading huge files all the time or an avid gamer it shouldn't matter. Qwest is cheaper and has better customer service so that's more than enough reason for me to go to them.

very true... better cost and customer service

but... he asked for "faster"... crimecast is hands down faster.  not a tiny bit "faster", but stupid crazy faster depending what DSL is available in your area.  Qwest advertises speeds "up to 10mb" "in some areas", the fastest speed available in my area (and the areas that any of my co-workers live in, in the city) is only 1.5mb.  There is a HUGE noticable difference between 6mb and 1.5mb.  The only thing that keeps me personally from going faster than 6mb is my modem (I own mine), a new modem can support 20+mb

oh and if cost is a concern, crimecast has "low speed" cable internet and that is STILL 3-4mb... 2-3x faster than 1.5 DSL
