4 cylinder 02a transmission
« on: February 12, 2010, 11:06:51 AM »

If anyone comes across one in a junkyard or through someone let me know. G60 corrado or passat 16v/aba/tdi. I'm not too concerned about ratios, more concerned about the bag of marbles someone let loose in my current trans.

You can use any 02J from a MK4 as well

And normally you can pick those up for less because there are alot more of them out there

My understanding is finding one with 100mm flanges is a bit difficult and to use 02a flanges I'd have to swap differentials. From what I know 98 NBs and maybe 99 mk4s had them.

You can just buy the 100mm flanges from the dealer or any online source.

When I did my MK2 I bought them, they come out of early 2.0's and all TDI's had the 100mm flanges.

But the flanges bolt into ANY 02J trans.

Than you can pick the trans ratios your want for your car.

2.0's have  4.2 ring and pinion

1.8t have 3.9 or 3.6

TDI have 3.3

Know of a place that is cheaper than $118 a pop? That's the only reason I'm not seriously considering an 02j is the price of the flanges if whatever trans I find doesn't have them.

Not sure I know my cost at the dealer was under that.

But just remember also, that almost a for sure is that if you find an old 02A is going to have syncro/reverse issue inside. Because the only 02A's you are going to find is 91-92 16v passat, or 90-91 G60 Which both of those are gauranteed to be trashed cars

So buying an 02J for less money plus flanges that doesnt need any work you can come out better

And you have again, a much larger choice of gear ratios to choose from. Where the 02A is only 3.6

Thanks I'll take a look. Unfortunately my budget doesn't have room for a built transmission, so no LSD for me.  :'(
