to BUGEYE or not....
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:15:21 PM »

So it's been awhile since i've posted on here been super busy with work . but anyway since there really isnt a group of "car" guys out in the area i'm at wonder what ya'all think about the last gen Subaru STI and the newer STI , looks wise i like both and price right now isnt a problem just wanting to hear what you guys know about them. i know some of you guys are into scooby's  so let me here what ya got

i plan on picking one up the end of next month and i'm leaning towards the last gen due to it being a sedan versus a hatch....

sedan versus a hatch....

That seems like the deciding factor to me. I've always wanted to do a last-gen WRX wagon and put the extra cash I saved into some sti-type upgrades.

They're all pretty decent cars, but I've never been that impressed by them. It boils down to which gen styling you like better and sedan or hatch. I'd say get the new R20 from VW if you could wait. Better interior and comparable drivetrain.

So it's funny i post this and i run into a old buddy at the PX who just bought a  Brand new STI , so he let me drive it and man let me tell ya i'm leaning towards the hatch now. I'm just sick of my rabbit dieing she broke down on me the other day and i still havent figured out whats wrong i have no power to anything in the car so i'm running new ground straps , brand new bat , cables and going to go from there.  Why not wait for a R well i kinda want a break from VW's , i got my rabbit which is fun and there isn't another mk1 in town so it gets alot of looks and comments. and i have allways liked Scooby's.........

the STI will blow the r20 away.... VW cannot make a comparable car to the STi. remember the r32 was and STI competition that could not compete, and the r20 will be the same.

i llike the new STi's looks.

The r32 was not made to compete w/ the Sti. Read the article on the Tex when it first came out. We weren't even supposed to get the r originally. Just because it was awd and came out around the same time don't mean it was made for. It wasn't even turbo, not light weight, and it was loaded to the gills unlike the sti.  I bet the new r20 is more geared toward the sti since it's turbo awd and has about 276 hp.  The sti will still beat it in pure driving enjoyment, but the r20 will be classier and more comfy doing it.
