Need some help locating where the connectors go
« on: March 06, 2010, 01:53:57 PM »

83 GTi engine trying to wire it into the 87' Scirocco. few of the wires we're not sure where it goes. So here are some hopefully decent pictures that might help.
Thanks in advance!

the dwell thing. Believe the white side was capped, not sure.

vacuum elbow at the intake manifold boot.

and a connector on the side of the block above one of the coolant flanges.

two connectors that have a tag on it that says something about coolant. We believe it goes onto a dual connector under the coolant flange on the front of the block, but not positive.

Delete the stuff in the first picture. It's emissions crap for fuel vapor control. Cap the fitting in the second picture. The third picture is an oil pressure sensor for the head. Use a Bentley to figure out which wire it goes to, but you should be ok with just the one on the filter adapter hooked up. For the fourth picture, I've seen on mk1 cars a sensor on the coolant pipe that leads from the water pump to the heater hose/water neck on the side of the head. I'm not sure what it's for, but you may as well hook it up if you have it. Greg or Ed could shed some more light on what it's used for. It might just be for the temp gauge.

the two wiring contacts in the last picture are for the temp switch located on your front coolant outlet, they are what turns your ecu from open loop to closed loop.

I dont' see the "dwell thing" connector in the photo, it is usally located behind that strut tower through... on some models like the Scirocco and Cabriolet (or am i thinking Golf II???) it may be re-located to beside the Coil.  the connector is square'ish shaped, about 1/2-2/3" wide and has round "pin holes" in it
