engine won't spin by hand
« on: March 08, 2010, 12:05:41 AM »

8v 83' GTi engine. wanted to find cyl. #1 TDC, started spinning the engine by the crank pulley when suddenly it became very hard to spin, to the point where I would have to use a lot of force to spin..which is where I stopped trying. This is a non interference engine so what could be getting in the way?

Pop out the spark plugs and see if it gets a lot easier.

it didn't. But Theron brought up a good point. I knocked it in gear and did not realize it. It was pretty early in the morning (I work on my car at weird times, cleaning the ports for the coolant flanges on the block. So I was working right next to the gear selector. Yay wetodd nation.
I'm going back to bed.
