I need a ignition distributor
« on: March 08, 2010, 01:56:35 PM »
for a later MkI 8v. with the rectangular connector. Came on my 87 Scirocco, not sure how early they came in rectangular connectors. But I need the car running by this weekend. Parts stores won't have one in for a week. I can try rockauto, but I'm not sure how long it would take for it to get here.

IIRC, my '81 came with the "oval" plug hall sender... I swapped to an the ignition out of a '82 a few years back and it had the "square" plug... but that doesn't mean that the PO of the '82 didn't swap to the ignition out of a later model, or that my '81 didn't have the ignition out of an earlier model LOL

well I havent been able to get to a yard. and I'm not really sure what vehicles come with that "square" plug.

4 cylinder engines... 1.6L, 1.7L, 1.8L... VW or Audi, starting around 1982 through to about 1986 (they will still have the vacuum canister on some models) :t-up:

hmm. alright. I'll have to drop by A1 see if I can get one. cause the 83 GTi engine had the round plug

oh, and if you just need to get the engine running... you can use a digifant distributor.  The only thing is, there is no mechanical advance on post 86ish distributors

i forgot, the pf motor i have has a vacuum advance dizzy... I'll check the plug for compatibility.
