Accelerated Undergraduate Program
« on: March 10, 2010, 06:23:12 PM »

So my wife is currently enrolled in a compressed graduate program here in Maryland. I am starting a new job next week that is local to the area in which we live in, and she is trying to sell me on an accelerated undergraduate program at the university she is attending.

Does anyone have any experience in a program like this?

I only know at this point that in which she has told me about it, and that would be:

1. One class a week, 3.5 hours per class.
2. 5 Week classes, all year round.
3. Undergradtuate degree (lets just say in Criminal Justice) in 2 years.

If anyone has had any experience in any accelerated undergrad stuff, I'd love to hear about it....
It's always been my philosophy that you do things right, the first time.... and when things are not done at a rate, in which they should normally be accomplished, corners are getting cut, and that's not the right way to me. It could just be me..... being a stubbron asshole though....

I took a 5 week compressed class... it isnt too bad and you dont have to worry about the whole "why is this class dragging on forever" The classes are fast paced.

The only issue is you wont remember shit. I did that for summer classes in college and it really didn't do much but get me credit and closer to my degree.  Plan to have papers and tests weekly and if you skip a class you really fuck yourself.

college doesnt teach you shit anyways. All it is, is paying to show you can cope with tasks. I mean really doesn western civilization help you be a better accountant? College is a hoax.  :D  Do the condensed classes, at least you will usually write one paper per class instead of two (was my experience)

While i agree some classes are that way, when you get into your major and upper class courses, there is a lot of valuable shit. Breezing thru isn't going to nean shit if you get an accounting degree and don't remember how to do debits , credits, and know the gaap's. Good luck finding a job or one that pays well

My sister in law went through an accelerated program for some type of HR degree. She's still in the service so she hasn't had a chance to use it yet so I couldn't say how good it is. It seems to me that if all you're looking for is a piece of paper that says you're smart, then these are probably good for that. I know that the faster the course is the less I retain from it. It's no big deal for BS classes , but can prove to be a pain with prerequisite courses.
