http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1272656189.html  1500 for a running caddy with the topper!!

Doesnt look too bad, some rattle can or you could do a rat look MK1?

BUY IT SOMEONE>

Everyone mentions how they want a caddy... this is uber cheap for the location and the area.

"Known by many different names, this is a mechanically sound version of the very handy little VW truck. Much of the mechanicals has been gone through including newer fuel pump, brakes, 5 speed transmission, water pump, timing belt, cap, rotor, wires, motor mounts and CV half shafts. This is a 1.7 gas vehicle and not the diesel but, it could be converted if you wanted to. Cosmetically the truck needs a little TLC which is not my expertise and hence my reason for having to part with it. There is are some area where the paint is thin and there is some surface rust, but there is only one area where the rust all the way through although its not structural. Come take a look at this solid, handy little truck. Camper shell will be included in the sale $1500 OBO. Feel free to email any questions, but I won’t be available to show the truck or answer calls until after 5:30 on the weekdays or on the weekends. Thanks for looking, Alan, (970) 980-9828, volksaddict71@comcast.net "

Buy it or just buy this head gasket!!

http://www.autotech.com/prod_engine_headgaskets.htm

Originally used as a racing part by Volkswagen Motorsport, this high strength gasket is suitable for any race engine. Here at Autotech, we have found this gasket to be the perfect street upgrade for low-compression (8.5:1) engines. The thinner compressed thickness raises the compression ratio on an 81mm bore JH motor (used in the Rabbit GTI) from 8.5:1 to approximately 8.9:1. The increased compression boosts torque and responsiveness . Fits all 1.8L 8V and 16V engines. 83mm maximum bore. 1.4mm thickness uncompressed.

$120 for .4 rise in compression??!! Yeah, I don't think so. I bet you could get the head decked and an oem gasket for the same or less.

It would be close. The head gasket fells between 50 and 80. Just depends where you look.

I have a source for custom made pure copper head gaskets, for less, and you can get them in custom thicknesses... . upwards of a .9 increase in compression for around $100-115 (less if 2 or more purchased) ;D

there is also another brand "Cometic" (sp?) that makes VW head gaskets, same thickness, and run about $80

He'd have to buy adapters. AWD 80s Audis used the 4x108 bolt pattern.
